Why use a topper? Embroidery topper is not a stand-alone stabilizer but used on top of your project. It’s used to keep your embroidery stitches from sinking into the weave or nap of your fabric. Toppers are most commonly used when embroidering on towels, but almost all embroidery can be improved by using a topper.

These chrome-plated needles are beneficial in resisting heat and wear by staying cooler longer, avoiding stitch distortion, and ultimately producing less friction and resistance. Schmetz 130/705 H-M Microtex (Sharp) Chrome Needles feature a slim acute point that makes this needle excellent for piercing fine or densely woven fabrics, microfiber materials, and synthetic leather. It was designed for modern microfibers/polyesters and high thread count/ high-quality fabrics that are commonly used today. The point is quite sharp – hence the name – but because of this, it is a little more fragile and needs to be changed more regularly, but it produces a lovely straight stitch. The Microtex/Sharp Needle is a great needle for piecing high thread count fabrics like batiks, silks, and microfibers. It is also used to create stunning topstitching and perfectly straight stitches for quilt piecing. Press any pieced or embroidered block with ease. The density of this high-quality 100% felted wool mat localizes heat to the seams and stitches, effectively pressing both sides at once. An added bonus? The texture of the wool stops fabrics from shifting so there is no distortion when pressing.

Tips and Tricks For best results, use a dry iron when pressing. When pressing an embroidered block, iron on the wrong side. The wool mat will cushion the stitches and retain the texture of the embroidery design.

If the mat feels damp after use, hang to air-dry before storing. Wash the mat occasionally by rinsing it in cold water and hang the mat until dry. If you choose to use starch, wait to press the fabric until it is completely dry. Starch build-up can scorch the mat if not cleaned properly.

Recommended surfaces for the wool mat include Formica, Corian, stone, and metal (an ironing board). Please use a protective barrier like the No-Stick Applique Sheet between wood or painted surfaces and the Wool Mat. Never place the mat on a rotary cutting mat when pressing. The heat could warp the cutting mat.

Fine point permits accurate drawing of both straight lines and free hand curves. The Refill Cartridge for Chaco Liner Pen Style (sold separately) is easy to replace when the powdered ink runs out.

Notes for Use

Use these simple guidelines for trouble free sewing.

Home Sewing Machines

• Use a Topstitch or Metallic needle size 90/14
• Loosen the top tension setting all the way down to a "1"
• If you use a 500 yd. spool, position the spool on the vertical pin spool holder so the thread unwinds straight from the side of the spool, with the spool rotating. The thread should not unwind over the end or top of the spool. If you use cone of thread, place the cone on a thread stand so the thread unwinds directly over the top.

Longarm Machines

• Use a size #19(MR 4.5) needle
• When using 500 yd. spools use the spool adapter to make sure the thread unwinds straight from the side and not over the end.
• Loosen the top tension until you can manually pull the thread through the needle without much resistance.
• Loosen the bobbin tension until you can hold the bobbin case in your left hand and pull up the thread with your right hand without lifting the bobbin case off your hand. If you use a Towa Bobbin Tension Guauge, adjust the bobbin tension to the 160 range.

Most longarm machine place more stress on the thread than do home machines. Follow these steps above for trouble free sewing.
